Fashion Influences

Fashion has been changing since the 60’s. Many different countries have had an influence on the ever changing fashion industry. Some of these countries include Paris, Milan, Tokyo and London not including the U.S. countries.

Milan has had a major influence on the trends for this fall. According to Milan Runway Fashion, Military-inspired coats and dresses (as shown in the picture from the Milan Runway Fashion website) are expected to be popular. Paisley and bohemian patterns are sure to be a hit as well. London has also had a big impact on the industry. Times online has said that Milan and London are the top two countries with the most influence.

According to All things design.com, the sixth London Design Festival just took place this September. Fashion Week also just recently took place and it is said that London is still known as a fashion capital. Times Online also stated on their website, “Fashion Week is the subject both of effusive reporting and vexed debate.” With this being said, I am sure many of the different countries will play a part on the influence of dress for the hottest styles this fall and winter.

Organic Clothing

Many people are unaware of what exactly makes up Organic and environmentally friendly clothing. According to The text book The Business of Fashion, organic clothes are made up of processes such as manufacturing products that include organic material, using less toxic materials and using less water in production. In the world we live in today human beings do not realize what kinds of pesticides are being put into the garments we wear.

I feel more people need to be informed about this type of clothing so that the environment can be better protected. This would also cause people to purchase environmentally friendly clothes. The national Council of Textile Organizations lists companies that produce organic, recycled, or environmentally friendly yarns (p. 129). “Environmentally cleaner” processes have been included into the cotton industry including, organic cotton and dyeing methods (p. 129). The first colored cotton was Foxfibre Cotton and they are committed to organic cotton production (p.130).

After reading about this type of clothing I am now interested in buying environment friendly clothing. This type of clothing can even be bought at places such as Wal-Mart or Target. I tend to eat a lot of organic foods so, why not reduce other pesticides and buy organic clothing as well?

I am a material girl who enjoys various designer goods, but there is one fashion designer in particular who has always stood out in my mind. I tend to live by the quote “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous”. Who else would dare to make such an audacious quote besides my favorite designer, Gabrielle also known as “Coco” Chanel.

Born in an orphanage Chanel was self taught and may be one of the most important designers of the twentieth century. I tend to fall in love with all of her chic yet classy designs. Although many of her handbags, clothes and jewelry are black somehow each piece looks different and unique. Since purses are my weakness I love to look at Chanel bags for hours. She was known for inventing the little black dress and I don’t know where I would be if I didn't own the black dresses I wear on a regular basis. Although Chanel is no longer living her designs still live on.

Young adults to middle aged women are the main target of the designer. Since Chanel's designs are expensive, usually wealthy, high class people tend to shop this designers line. My personal favorite item Chanel produces are the sparkly stud earrings that make the Chanel symbol. The purses with the symbol also became very popular in 2006 to 2007. These are just some of the reasons why Chanel is my favorite designer. Without her elegance and lace the fashion world would not be what it is today.
